Providing IT services to a Bank or Insurance company
Question

My father’s current job company are removing employees. My father may also be removed.
My Father found a new job (the link to which is https://www.global.ntt), which he is unsure if it halal to do because the company provides IT services to other clients/companies.
These clients can be permissible companies or companies like the bank or insurance companies.
If my father provides IT services to the bank or other haraam companies, will he be assisting in sin?

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
We have received your query dated 25/08/21, our response is as follows:
We applaud you for your concern with regards to your income , May Allah Ta’ala increase us all in goodness.
Allah Ta’ala mentions in the holy Quran :
وتعاونوا وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَىٰ ۖ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ
“Assist each other in good works and Taqwa and do not assist each other in sin and transgression” . (Surah Al-Maidah , 3).
The company that you wish to seek employment in is a company that provides services to the bank , as we know the foundation of the entire banking system is based on interest , Allah Ta’ala says in the Noble Qur’an with regards to interest :
فَإِن لَّمْ تَفْعَلُوا فَأْذَنُوا بِحَرْبٍ مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ۖ وَإِن تُبْتُمْ فَلَكُمْ رُءُوسُ أَمْوَالِكُمْ لَا تَظْلِمُونَ وَلَا
تُظْلَمُونَ
“If you do not (avoid interest), then be warned of war from Allaah and His Rasool (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)” (Surah Al-Baqarah 279)
If you are assisting in providing IT support for a company which does not provide any Haraam services then such an occupation is permissible , however if you are assisting the bank or an insurance company then such an occupation should be avoided.
You may however mention to the company that you wish to take employment in a way that you only provide IT services to companies which do not clash with your religious beliefs , if this is granted then well and good , if not then we advise that since you have a background in IT , you should try to look for a more appropriate job opportunity that is more aligned with the guidelines of Shari’ah.
In that way, you will be able to benefit people through your expertise and effort. [1]
